Wikis, Wikis and More Wikis
It seems the new thing in Real Estate sites lately is the Wiki.
"What is a Wiki?", you ask. According to Wikipedia (one of the biggest and best known wikis), a wiki is a "website that allows the visitors themselves to easily add, remove, and otherwise edit and change available content, typically without the need for registration". Simply put, they are websites built specifically for collaboration between a large group of people.
Wikipedia has become one of the largest and most popular sites on the internet. You can research any subject on wikipedia and if you see an error or an omission, you can change it.
So by this point you are asking yourself how this relates to Real Estate. Well in the past few weeks 2 of the largest Real Estate websites have launched competing wikis. Both Inman News and Zillow have recently rolled out Real Estate focused wikis. These sites are both directed at the end customer but can also be very helpful for new and even seasoned Real Estate Agents.
Are sites like these useful to the customer? Does it step on the toes of the Real Estate agent or does it require them to be on their toes?
It seems to me that a more informed customer is a good thing for the industry. It will require a higher caliber of agent. One that is well informed, knowledgeable, and in touch with the resources available to the customer.
What do you think?
